By the Waterfall

One kiss remembered
and I am in that place once more
water falling from earth to earth
memories
dreams
cascading
running
straight to my space of heart

I knew you were not mortal then
when I first looked up
and heard you scream

How you used to hover
and ride in the air
circling the upper stream

It seemed as if all the world's sorrows
tipped over the edge in that place
but the iron clad shale
simply caught them
and made them ululate
into another rippling stream

We dance the dance of life my friend
You were never my foe
even with your killer's eye
your killer's beak

Life is your kiss
Death is your kiss
Buzzard
God
Thunderbird
Carry me up
Bear me up
Let me soar with you at last

Written in 2013 this was a writing class exercise to use certain words and write something in the course of twenty minutes. It was a poem waiting to happen, and hung on the words to ride in the air. One of my spiritual obsessions is with the North American concept of the Thunderbird as an expression of the Great Spirit. I have been on more than one Shamanic journey where I have encountered the Man/Bird so something spoke through me and the imagery just fell into place. Seeing Buzzards soaring high in the sky always brings back to mind, heart and gut some moments of deeply significant Druidic/Shamanistic  experience. It began with the intense vision of the waterfall and there he was circling high up and screaming.  How could I not respond when Sprit gives me words? Gratitude!

I have always enjoyed writing and concocting stories and poems and I would like to thank my mother for singing to me when I was young and showing me that it was natural to write things down. Telling impromptu stories to my kids when they were young was also fun.
